MACHINING

Drilling, Milling, Boring and Turning operations require significant volumes of “flood coolant” to move chips from the work area to the coolant sump. In the past chip conveyors or wedgewire filters were sufficient for the removal of large chips and the “fines” were allowed to circulate back to the tool.Modern machine tools now operate at higher speeds and increased feed rates, intensifying the need for high pressure “clean coolant” at the tool.HydroFlow®Filters with Synthetic Permanent Media, Wedge Wire, Disposable Roll Media, or Cellulose Precoated Microscreen can filter as low as one micron and are available with low pressure flood coolant or high pressure directed coolant.Chip transfer is a critical requirement in machining applications and HydroFlow is the proven leader in supplying chip transfer systems that work. We have experience with Scalping Conveyors used as a pre-filter for large volume and difficult chips. We design pit mounted filters fed by in-ground flume and floor mounted systems fed by overhead pipes using our custom Chip Transfer Sumps.

COOLANTS

HydroFlow® filters can be designed for use with all water based coolants and/or straight cutting oils. Knowledge of the coolant characteristics is essential to the proper selection and sizing of any filtration system. HydroFlow has systems in operation on all major coolant manufacturers products.

 
CENTERLESS

Centerless, ID/OD, Surface, Form and other types of conventional grinding are ideal applications for HydroFlow® Filters. The contaminate or “swarf” produced by the combination of metal and wheel breakdown form a filter cake that enhances the filters performance.For flow rates of 40 GPM to 1200 GPM and filtration to 10 microns, the new 2XF™ Dual Element Permanent Media Vacuum Filtration System offers the most advantages over other types of filters available today.Our STAR FILTER® handles applications requiring finer filtration to 1 Micron and / or higher flow rates to 6000 GPM.  

CREEP FEED GRINDING

Creep Feed Grinding is a difficult and demanding filtration application. Large volumes of high-pressure coolant combined with heavy stock removal and abrasive wheel breakdown can not be successfully handled by gravity beds, cyclone separators or flat bed pressure filters. Vacuum filtration is the proven performer for this application.We have been building Vacuum Filters for creep feed grinding applications since 1986. We supplied the industries first central system for creep feed grinding in 1990, servicing 20 large Blohm Grinding Cells with a total flow requirement in excess of 2000 GPM. We work closely with all of the major grinder manufactures supplying individual and central systems to both the OEM and end users. Packaged systems can include: gravity entry design, coolant temperature control, mist collection, selectable flows and pressures. Our introduction of the vacuum element STAR FILTER. in 1992, provided the most economical and reliable choice for high flow rate central systems.In 2006 we introduced the 2XF™ Dual Element Permanent Media Vacuum Filtration System for Creep Feed Grinding.  

CBN Grinding

Perhaps the fastest growing and most difflcult filtration application in modern metal working is the CBN Grinding / Superabrasive Machining process. This high-speed process of metal removal requires the use of heavy oils at very high pressure (up to 1000 PSI) resulting in aeration and cavitation problems. And the hard nature of the CBN produces swarf with very little particle size distribution resulting in blinding and short cycling.Our new 2XF™ Dual Element Permanent Media Vacuum Filtration System addresses all of these problems with a filter designed and developed in cooperation with the major machine builders. We are the leading supplier of Vacuum Filters to the OEM market of CBN machine builders.
